Mom & Dad (2017–2025)
Mom & Dad is a photographic series created in our family house in Leros, documenting my parents asleep over a period of eight years. The act of photographing them began almost by accident, as the architecture of the house requires passing through their bedroom to leave. Yet this daily passage gradually became a quiet ritual of observation.
In sleep, their bodies seemed to dissolve into timelessness. The camera became a witness to this fragile suspension, and to the ways love, aging, and absence intertwine within the stillness of a shared dream. Echoing the writings of Maurice Blanchot, sleep appears not as absence, but as a subtle form of presence: a retreat from the world that nonetheless reveals the tenderness of being.
These photographs speak of intimacy, of the delicate space between seeing and letting go, of the soft attention that transforms ordinary moments into a quiet meditation on life, care, and mortality.
